In the operating room of a large, well-known hospital, it was the nurse’s first twenty-four hours on the surgical squad.  She was responsible that all instruments and stufves were accounted for before completing the final stepses of the operation.   

She said to the operating surgeon,

“You’ve simply withdrawn 11 sponges.  We used 12 sponges, and we take to happen the last one.”

“I took away them all,” the Dr. declared definitely. “We’ll shut the dent now.”



“No,”  the greenhorn nurse objected, “we employed 12 sponges.”

“I’ll take the duty,” the operating surgeon stated grimly.  “Suture.”

“You can’t do that, sir,” blared the nurse. “consider of the patient.”

The operating surgeon smiled and elevated his foot, showing the nurse the twelfth sponge. “You’ll do just fine in this or any other infirmary.”
